Local Sights of the Valley: Webcams
The “Valley View” from Back Road. Overlooking Farquharson Farm, the Kus Kus Sum Estuary, Comox/Dyke Road, and downtown Courtenay. The famous Comox Glacier can be seen in the background.
Crown Isle is an award-winning course, resort, and restaurant at “the top of the hill”. Minutes from Costco and the North Island College, this high-end community features some of the most beautiful homes in the valley.
Driving down Ryan Road Hill gives you a view of the Glacier and the start of the commercial area. You’ll pass Chances Casino, plus hotels, apartment blocks, and Superstore. Take a left to Comox, right to the Vanier Sportsplex, and stay straight to get to downtown.
Beautiful Bates Beach view from the oceanfront resort. Nestled between Seal Bay Nature Park, Kitty Coleman Woodland Gardens, and the ferry terminal to nearby Powell River.
Point Holmes and Lazo Beach, recently renovated with a multi-use waterfront trail, is popular for its sightseeing: herring boats trawl through the waters in the spring, and kayakers and swimmers can be seen in summer and winter!
The Courtenay Fish and Game Club is on the waterfront of Comox Lake, on the “Courtenay Side” and has an up-close view of the Glacier. Explore the mountain biking and hiking trails throughout the Cumberland forest.

Mt. Washington is one of the most popular ski resorts in all of BC. Condos, Chalets, and Cabins keep you close to the action of downhill, cross-country, and hiking trails. Paradise Meadows is a must-see in all four seasons.
The Courtenay Airpark houses over 60 aircraft, including amateur-built and a helicopter! Walk the outskirts of the airpark to view the estuary and a variety of birds in the pond. You might even catch a floatplane coming in or seals playing in the bay.

About the Comox Valley
The Comox Valley is located midway up the east coast of Vancouver Island, 94 miles (150k) from Vancouver. It has three main communities: the City of Courtenay, the Town of Comox and the Village of Cumberland. Area population of the three centres, and outlying areas from Bowser to Oyster River is about 75,000.
The Comox Valley enjoys some of the most favourable weather in Canada, with short, mild winters and warm, dry summers. In the winter months, one can ski in the morning and golf in the afternoon. The Valley is known as the “Recreation Capital of Canada”. There is no shortage of fun activities: snowboard and ski the Mount Washington Ski Resort; try any of the eight golf courses; explore various marine adventures encompassing everything from kayaking to salmon fishing. On the arts scene, the Valley has one of the highest concentrations of artists in Canada, with over 600 resident artists. Live theatres, music venues, museums and numerous galleries create a thriving cultural community. Don’t miss events at Sid Williams Theatre, Musicfest, or Cumberland Wild.
A variety of health professionals ensure a high degree of medical and dental care. There is a full-care hospital, and many extended care options. There are plenty of choices for chiropractor, massage, and spas too. School facilities range from preschools through senior secondary to North Island College. Retail stores service all needs: from the farmer’s market and specialty shops downtown, to malls and major grocery chain outlets.
How to Get Here:
There are ferry terminals at Vancouver (Horseshoe Bay or Tsawassen), Naniamo (Departure Bay and Duke Point), and Powell River that all lead to the Comox Valley. The trip across Georgia Strait from Horseshoe Bay to Nanaimo is approximately 90 minutes. For more information check out the BC Ferries web site.
If driving, check Google Maps and take either the main Inland Island Highway 1, or take 1A (the scenic route) along the coast. Driving from Victoria takes over 2 hours, and from Nanaimo to Courtenay just an hour.
